SUMMARY:Free 2-Day Scientific Computing Python Workshop 10/23+24 at Rosenstiel
DESCRIPTION:The Software Carpentry community (software-carpentry.org) helps researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This hands-on “Python” workshop will cover basic concepts and tools\, including program design\, version control\, data management\, and task automation. \nParticipants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems. The course is aimed at graduate students and other researchers. You don’t need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop. \nRegistration Closed (this session is full)\nThursday and Friday\, October 23+24 2025\, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM | Course Hours BOTH DAYS |  Add to your Google Calendar. \nClick here for Full Syllabus + Instructions\nLocation\nRosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science\nLibrary (Room 106 upper level Science and Administration Building “SLAB”\n4600 Rickenbacker Causeway\, Virginia Key\, FL 33149.\nGet directions with OpenStreetMap or Google Maps. \nRequirements\nParticipants must bring a laptop with a Mac\, Linux\, or Windows operating system (not a tablet\, Chromebook\, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on. They should have a few specific software packages installed (listed on syllabus). \nAccessibility\nWe are committed to making this workshop accessible to everybody. The workshop organizers have checked that: \n\nThe room is wheelchair / scooter accessible (take the elevator located on the ground level in the parking lot area beneath the building).\nAccessible restrooms are available.\n\nParking\nAnyone with a UM parking permit associated with their vehicle license plate number can park anywhere inside the gate on the Rosenstiel campus.  Parking is first-come\, first-served\, except for a few spaces tagged “RESERVED.”  Outside the gate\, the (free) public parking lots are also an option\, and alternatively\, there is the Rosenstiel Shuttle that originates at the Miller Circle on the Gables campus.
