{"id":2313,"date":"2023-08-26T09:49:09","date_gmt":"2023-08-26T09:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/idsc.miami.edu\/magazine\/?p=2313"},"modified":"2023-12-14T19:51:00","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T19:51:00","slug":"new-research-support-services-team-extends-idscs-reach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/idsc.miami.edu\/magazine\/new-research-support-services-team-extends-idscs-reach\/","title":{"rendered":"New Research Support Services Team Extends IDSC&#8217;s Reach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new <strong>Research Support Services <\/strong>team at the Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing (IDSC) will help University of Miami users <em>and <\/em>the private sector \u201cconnect the dots\u201d in their research and development projects. \u201cThis an important outreach step for IDSC, making our advanced computing resources and expertise available to a wider field of users,\u201d said <strong>Ravi Vadapalli, Ph.D.,<\/strong> director, IDSC <a href=\"https:\/\/idsc.miami.edu\/advanced-computing\/\">Advanced Computing,<\/a> and research associate professor in the College of Engineering.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Research Support Services team includes <strong>Elvis Maradzike, Ph.D.<\/strong>, assistant scientist with a strong background in computational science; <strong>Rajesh Pasupuleti, Ph.D.<\/strong>, assistant scientist at IDSC with experience in privacy-preserving data mining analysis, engineering, mathematics, and statistics; and <strong>Christopher Mader<\/strong>, senior director, IDSC Systems + Data Engineering. Since 2007, the University researchers and their collaborators contributed to an exponential growth in advanced computing investments amounting to more than 240 TFLOPS of computing capacity and more than 3 PB of parallel storage. The computing facility currently supports more than 50+ user groups across science, engineering, liberal arts, and medicine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/idsc.miami.edu\/triton\/\">TRITON<\/a> is UM\u2019s first GPU-accelerated advanced computing system, one of the top 5 US academic institution supercomputers when launched in 2019. TRITON supports completely new approaches to computational and data science for all UM campuses. Built using IBM Power Systems AC922 servers, this system was designed to maximize data movement between the IBM POWER9 CPU and attached accelerators like GPUs.<\/p>\n<p>IDSC Advanced Computing collaborates with IDSC <a href=\"https:\/\/idsc.miami.edu\/systems-and-data-engineering\/\"><strong>Systems + Data Engineering<\/strong><\/a> to provide a comprehensive set of services and training opportunities for a well-rounded research computing and data science experience, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>High-Performance Computing<\/strong><br \/>\nMulti-core enabled computational research support services across both CPU to GPU environments, job scheduling and management, high-performance parallel storage, and visualization<\/li>\n<li><strong>Data Science and Analytics<\/strong><br \/>\nCustomized training sessions in harnessing data science tools for research and training.
