Dr. Hilda M. Pantin, a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has had a distinguished career in her 20 years as a faculty member for the Division of Prevention Science and Community Health. She serves as the Executive Vice Chair of the Division of Epidemiology & Population Health Sciences and the Associate Director of the Prevention Division.

She has been the Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator of several NIH grants amounting to more than $12 million. In her prior role as the Director of the Prevention Division, she launched a systematic program of research for the prevention of problem behaviors in Hispanic adolescents. Dr. Pantin is the clinical model developer of Familias Unidas, a very promising family-centered, ecodevelopmental intervention to prevent behavior problems (including conduct problems, drug abuse, and HIV risky sexual behaviors) in Hispanic adolescents.

Dr. Pantin currently has over 55 scholarly publications including several that describe the Familias Unidas clinical model and/or the results of clinical trials documenting the efficacy of the Familias Unidas intervention.

Selected as the 2003 Winner of the Outstanding Research Publication Award by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and Dr. Pantin also received the National Award for Excellence in Mentoring from the National Hispanic Science Network in 2005. Most recently, in 2010 Dr. Pantin received the Community, Culture & Prevention Science Award from the Society for Prevention Research.

Dr. Pantin serves on the National Institute of Mental Health’s Consortium on Family and HIV/AIDS, is a member of National Institute on Drug Abuse’s National Hispanic Science Network, and is a member of the Society for Prevention Research.
