Free 2-Day Scientific Computing with “R” Workshop 3/3-4

FreeSoftware Carpentry aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. This hands-on workshop will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.

This workshop is free and open to UM Faculty, Staff, and Students.
Who The course is aimed at graduate students and other researchers.
You don’t need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop.
Where This training will take place online and in-person at the University of Miami Medical Campus, Don Soffer CRC Building, 1120 NW 14th Street, 7th Floor, CTSI Research Training Center (Room), Miami FL 33136. (Map | Directions) The instructors will provide you with the information you will need to connect to this meeting.

Requirements Participants must have access to a computer with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on. They should have a few specific software packages installed (listed here).

Data Ethics
As part of this 2-day workshop, a guest speaker will join us for a Special Program in Ethics for Scientific Writing and Coding: Kenneth W. Goodman, PhD, Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy, on “Ethics and Software Standards.”
