Chicas Poderosas is defined as a movement helping Latin American journalists learn digital storytelling skills. Chicas Poderosas brought its training model, network and mission to empower Latin American women here to the US for the first time.  Hosted at Univision and then at the University of Miami School of Communication, the event was organized by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) with the support of Knight Foundation, the Institute for Data Science and Computing (IDSC), Univision, and a few other sponsors.

The Knight Foundation Blog reported dozens of journalists, designers, and developers attended the event. The list of speakers included Alberto Cairo, from UM’s School of Communication.
