VizUM 2014
December 11, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThe Places & Spaces Exhibit capstone event and launch of our annual VizUM Symposium will take place on December 11, 2014, 6:00–8:00 PM at the Stanley and Jewell Glasgow Hall (Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center,) School of Architecture. The event is open to the public. RSVP here.
The University of Miami hosted the debut of the 10th and final iteration of the Places & Spaces Exhibit, created by Indiana University as a unique and innovative scientific visualization concept. The exhibit has been here over the Fall 2014 semester, sponsored jointly and equally by the Institute for Data Science & Computing, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Communication, with generous support of space and resources from the Otto G. Richter Library and the School of Architecture.
In the first VizUM Symposium, we will hear from Chance Scott, a graduate student in geography, detailed accident density for Miami-Dade County from 2003 through 2010; Julius Dewalt, also a graduate student in geography, illustrated the mosquito-borne distribution of malaria in Mali; and undergraduate Luis David Real showed the growth of Hispanic populations in Georgia, county by county, from 2000 through 2010. Faculty Speakers include: Juhong Park, School of Architecture; Alberto Cairo, School of Communication and Center for Computational Science; and Victor Milenkovic, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Computer Science. Don’t miss this pivotal event in our visualization timeline.
