The University of Miami Libraries are looking at the experience of our neighbors in Puerto Rico and Mexico and are seeking appropriate ways to reach out to them and help in any way possible. Along with Columbia University, Rutgers University, Boston University, and Trinity College, UML will host an event using the OpenStreetMap platform to help provide the Red Cross and other emergency first responders with data needed for disaster response in Puerto Rico and Mexico. PLEASE NOTE: Owing to Hurricane Irma, the application deadline has been extended to Thursday, October 12, 2017. Applications for 2017-2018 opened on September 5, 2017. The Steering Committee will meet within one week of the closing of applications to choose the IDSC Fellows. There will be two reminders before the deadline. The announcement will be emailed to offices of Undergraduate Research, Graduate Office (UM, Med Sch, RSMAS, CoE, CAS), and to student groups at CoE, CAS, Med School, and RSMAS. Media Relations will help publicize it internally (E-Veritas, etc.), and via student media.
The DH+DJ Symposium canceled owing to Hurricane Irma. The 2nd annual Digital Humanities + Data Journalism Symposium has been CANCELLED due to Hurricane Irma. As part of an HABS (Historical American Buildings Survey) effort to document the built environment, a University of Miami School of Architecture ARC 518 class took a small caravan of aircraft to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas to visit an historic site in disrepair, “The Residency” the former Governor’s mansion in Harbour Town.
