It is a pleasure to invite you to “Connections, Connections: Student Research in Social Systems @ UM” a Flash Talks and Networking Symposium organized by the IDSC Social Systems Informatics Members. Social informatics includes modeling big behavioral data to understand human and non-human social interaction. Students working in psychology, education, geography, public health, or architecture; students studying sociality in model organisms; or students working on method development through computer science, mathematics, physics and engineering, may fall under the Social Systems Informatics umbrella. Big Data in Health 2018

The Big Data in Health Conference was held at Salerno (Italy) on June 6-8, 2018. The event was organized by Enrico Capobianco, from UMCCS’ Computational Biology & Bioinformatics program, in collaboration with the Universities of Salerno, Perugia, Roma (Cattolica), and was co-sponsored by Roche Pharma Italy. Frost Science UBMS Program Summer Speaker Lecture 7/5/18

Science can be a powerful pathway to prosperity, yet under-resourced students often miss out on both a focused curriculum in school, and science role models in their lives. UM School of Architecture Dean and CCS Smart Cities program director Rodolphe el-Khoury reported in from the inaugural WIEE World Innovation and Entrepreneurship Expo 2018 in Shanghai: “It turned out to be quite a good event and forum. Hybrid individuals, who have computational skills in their toolbox in addition to their domain skills and interests, will likely have a larger role to play in creating the next technological innovations. The Odd Pairings symposium for graduate and undergraduate students is designed as a deep dive into interdisciplinary pairings between a number of disciplines and computational science. This symposium is one step towards integrating interdisciplinary skills deeper into our academic environment and making them part of our culture.
