TRITON Supercomputer Launch Celebration 9/19/2019

You are invited to celebrate the launch of TRITON, the University of Miami’s new supercomputer. Using the same AI-optimized architecture as the world’s most powerful supercomputers, Triton is UM’s first GPU-accelerated HPC/AI system, representing a new approach to computational and data science. Triton was designed to process vast amounts of data in near real time by accelerating data transfer between the IBM POWER9 CPU and attached accelerators, enabling students, researchers, and data scientists to explore new possibilities. Overview of New TRITON AI-Ready System 9/20/2019

This session will provide an overview of the University’s data-driven Advanced Computing Systems design as well as the design of the new AI-ready system, TRITON, which supports the biomedical architecture. The Biomedical Informatics architecture at UM currently supports nearly 7 PB of biomedical research data and numerous projects including EHR data from three Health Care partner organizations. The team is ready to answer questions regarding grant proposals, and can provide resource information about the Advanced Computing environment. 2-DAY “R” Workshop 12/2-3/2019 RSMAS Campus

Trained instructors lead a comprehensive, hands-on overview of what is possible with R, using an example dataset. Go from reading data into R to data types, functions, conditional statements, loops, how to write in RMarkdown, as well as best practices for writing R code that others can understand and use. “This Hurricane Map Doesn’t Mean What You Think It Means: We use hurricane forecasts to warn people. Why do we misinterpret them so often?” is a motion graphic created by CCS Visualization Program Director Alberto Cairo, along with Tala Schlossberg (NY Times Opinion Visuals Journalist), (“cone of uncertainty”) which appeared online at The New York Times. Thrombospondin-1 Mediates Axon Regeneration in Retinal Ganglion Cells

Neuronal subtypes show diverse injury responses, but the molecular underpinnings remain elusive. Using transgenic mice that allow reliable visualization of axonal fate, we demonstrate that intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) are both resilient to cell death and highly regenerative.
