IDSC and the Department of Computer Science bring Civic…
The Center for Computational Science, along with the Department of Computer Science, are coordinating the University’s effort to participate in the National Day of Civic Hacking. Whitehouse.gov describes the National Day of Civic Hacking Day as “An opportunity for software developers, technologists, and entrepreneurs to unleash their can-do American spirit by collaboratively harnessing publicly-released data and code to create innovative solutions for problems that affect Americans.” The event involves many government agencies who will grant citizens access to data to use in building technology that helps their communities. According to hackforchange.org, 36 states have planned events where hackers will have access to data from agencies such as the Department of Labor, the Census Bureau, and NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration).
You can participate locally through The Lab Miami “HACK FOR CHANGE: MIAMI – ARTS AND MORE”.
The event takes place from Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 9:00 AM to Sunday, June 2, 2013, at 5:00 PM, at The Lab Miami in Wynwood: 400 NW 26th Street, Miami FL 33127 (Google Map).
