| Born in England, Nigel Holmes studied illustration at the Royal College of Art in London and then freelanced for magazines and newspapers for 12 years before coming to America in 1978 to work for Time Magazine. He became graphics director and stayed there for 16 years. Since 1994 he has run his own business, Explanation Graphics, explaining all sorts of things for a variety of clients, including Apple, CVS, The Smithsonian, and United Healthcare. He also does graphics and illustrations for publications such as The Atlantic, Harper’s, and The New York Times.

Simon Rogers is an award-winning data journalist, writer and speaker. Co-host of The Data Journalism Podcast with Alberto Cairo and author of ‘Facts are Sacred‘, published by Faber & Faber around the world. He has also written a range of infographics for children books from Candlewick. Data editor at Google, based in San Francisco, he is director of the Sigma Data Journalism Awards, taught Data Journalism at Medill-Northwestern University in San Francisco, and has taught at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
