PANEL 1 Capability Building for Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence

Pete Martinez serves as Chairman and CEO of Game Changer Tec, LLC and SIVOTEC Analytics; high innovation enterprises at the intersection of Sports, Health, Technology, and Big Data Analytics. An international entrepreneur, he has led numerous high impact initiatives in the areas of high technology, business consulting, healthcare, and education. Previously, during his 32 year tenure with IBM, Martinez, Vice President of Global Business Services and the Senior Location Executive for IBM South Florida, led a 1,700-person organization composed of consultants, hardware and software developers, industry specialists and sales leaders. He led projects in the areas of advanced research, supercomputing, and information based medicine. In 2003, Martinez led the formation of IBM’s largest Business Transformation Multi-client Center that has opened a multi-billion dollar outsourcing business.

For more than 19 years, Marvin Mayorga has served in multiple roles performing various business and IT leadership functions supporting Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR and Operations. In his current role, Mr. Mayorga is responsible for implementing disruptive business intelligence solutions and making bold moves to drive profound business transformations. In partnership with the world’s leading companies, having gained experience spanning across 15 industries, Mr. Mayorga is proud to have struck a balance between industry knowledge and business intelligence expertise to help institutionalize more effective analytically powered business transformations for his customers. Thus, the intersection of industry knowledge and business intelligence is not just what he does but is a fundamental part of who he is and what he has to offer.

Dr. Arthur Kordon is an internationally recognized expert and consultant in applying advanced analytics and computational intelligence in industry. In his previous position as Advanced Analytics Leader at Dow Chemical, Dr. Kordon successfully applied advanced analytics solutions in forecasting, business cycles analysis, price elasticity analysis, and fraud detection in auditing. He also successfully introduced several novel technologies for improved manufacturing, and new product design, based on computational intelligence (such as: robust inferential sensors, process optimization based on empirical emulators, automated operating discipline, and accelerated fundamental model building). He was granted a US patent and has published more than 70 papers and 13 book chapters in the area of applied computational intelligence and advanced analytics. Recently, he published Applying Computational Intelligence and is co-author of the book Applied Data Mining for Forecasting. He spoke on analytics and forecasting at Chevron and several SAS conferences, and was the keynote speaker at the Business Forecasting Summit.

Dr. Mitsunori Ogihara joined the University of Miami in 2007 as Professor in the Department of Computer Science and as Program Director of the Big Data Analytics & Data Mining Program within the Center for Computational Science. More recently, he served as Associate Dean for Digital Library Innovation in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Ogihara obtained his PhD in Information Sciences from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1993. From 1994 to 2007, Dr. Ogihara was a Computer Science faculty member at the University of Rochester, where he was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 1998, and to full Professor in 2002. He also served as Chair of for the Department from 1999 to 2007.

His research interests are in data mining, information retrieval, network traffic data analysis, program behavior analysis, molecular computation, and music information retrieval.  Dr. Ogihara is the author of The Complexity Theory Companion, Music Data Mining, and, his most recent publication, Fundamentals of Java Programming.

Sanjeev Taran is a Senior Manager at Deloitte and lead architect for Big Data and Analytics implementations serving several Fortune 100 clients. He has more than 25 years of data management experience including database applications, middleware technologies, distributed computing and cloud-based architectures. Currently, Mr. Taran is implementing a big data analytics platform for a public utility company in Midwest to enable storm predictions and outage management.

PANEL 2 Data Governance, Privacy, and Cyber Security in the Era of Big Data

Allison Eng-Perez currently serves as the Higher Education sector leader for Deloitte’s Risk and Financial Advisory practice that provides services in the areas of cyber risk, finance transformation, strategic risk, data analytics, and internal/external audits. She has more than twenty years of experience managing complex projects and large scale implementations with a special focus on addressing program risks, cyber risks, strategic risks, and financial risks.

In her national role, Ms. Eng-Perez coordinates and manages all firm efforts to help universities, colleges, and academic medical organizations manage financial, operational, technological, and regulatory risk in order to maximize institutional value, better serve students and patients and serve as leaders in our communities. She also serves as board member for the Center for Higher Education Excellence.

Filippo Marino has developed, led or optimized corporate intelligence programs, executive protection efforts, and enterprise risk mitigation operations as both an adviser and functional leader for some of the world’s largest and most complex organizations. He is the founder and CEO of Safe-Esteem, a Miami-based technology startup merging big data with artificial and human intelligence to transform the measurement and understanding of personal risk and safety.  Mr. Marino is also the founder and managing partner of Tegumen, LLC, where he leads Protective Security and Enterprise Risk Intelligence consulting efforts for Fortune 500 clients. In his most recent corporate role, he developed and managed McDonald’s Global Risk Intelligence & Executive Protection operations. He also led the brand’s initiatives and best practices in the areas of Workplace Violence Prevention, Crisis Management, and major events security, including Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup. His career started as an officer of the Italian Army, and has developed several guidelines and best practices for both protective security practitioners and corporate intelligence analysts. Mr. Marino holds a degree in Behavioral Science.

Martin L. Levy is the acting Chief Marketing Officer of e-forensics inc. A Miami based firm providing state-of-the art solutions in cyber security, digital forensics, and e-discovery. Mr. Levy has been leading the firm’s revenue diversification and geographical expansion in the Americas and global markets.

Dr. Gidel aligns clinical informatics and data with quality metrics, helping to establish evidence-based best practices across the system.  He is responsible for performance improvement, analytics, telehealth, medical informatics and focuses on the clinical decision-making to have data-driven support. Dr. Gidel serves as Baptist Health’s Chief Medical Informatics Officer and helped spearhead the organization’s implementation of Cerner Millennium, a new integrated electronic medical record system.  He also serves as Medical Director of Baptist Health’s Telehealth Center, including Telemedicine, the eICU, the Transfer Center and as Co-Chair of the System-wide Adult Critical Care Committee.

A. Michael Froomkin is the Laurie Silvers & Mitchell Rubenstein Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Recent work on technology law includes articles on AI and medicine, on drones, and many articles about law and the Internet, and on technology and privacy.

He is the founder and editor of the online law review Jotwell, The Journal of Things We Like (Lots). He is a founder (2012) and sometime Chair of the We Robot conference, which returns to Coral Gables in 2019. He serves on the Editorial Board of I/S: A Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society. He is on the Advisory Boards of several organizations including the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Electronic Privacy Information Center. Prof. Froomkin is a member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London, and a non-resident Fellow of the Yale Law School Information Society Project. He is also active in technology-related projects in the greater Miami area.

Before entering teaching, Prof. Froomkin practiced international arbitration law in the London office of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. He clerked for Judge Stephen F. Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals, D.C. Circuit, and Chief Judge John F. Grady of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. Prof. Froomkin received his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he served as Articles Editor of both the Yale Law Journal and the Yale Journal of International Law. He has an M.Phil in History of International Relations from Cambridge University in England, which he obtained while on a Mellon Fellowship. His B.A. from Yale was in Economics and History, summa cum laude, phi beta kappa with Distinction in History.

Raimundo Rodulfo is an IEEE Senior Member with twenty-five years of working experience delivering value, sustainability and innovation to customers and organizations. He is the Director of Information Technology of City of Coral Gables, Florida, responsible for strategic planning, management and continuous improvement of city-wide IT operations, infrastructure and smart city initiatives. Prior to joining the City in 2004, he worked for ten years in the private sector, including seven years in Bellsouth as a development engineer and three years engineering electronic equipment and systems for Siemens, NCR and other organizations. He also worked on joint projects in Illinois, California, Florida and LATAM with Motorola, Lucent, Agilent, Cisco and IBM.

Mr. Rodulfo’s team at the City of Coral Gables IT Department works together with the city’s leadership and departments as a key strategic partner bringing value, efficiencies, innovation and process improvements across organization through technology solutions, smart city initiatives and projects.

Mr. Rodulfo is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), and ITIL/PCI/HIPAA/Virtualization/SAP certified professional. He holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management from Florida International University (FIU), a Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Systems from FIU, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from National Polytechnic University.
