Distinguished Guest Speaker Jacqueline Le Moigne of NASA IST…
The University of Miami Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing (IDSC) and the College of Arts and Sciences are pleased to present Jacqueline Le Moigne, Manager NASA Earth Science Technology Office (ETSO) Advanced Modeling Technology (AMT) Program for a guest distinguished lecture, in person only, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 11AM-12PM.
TALK TITLE: “NASA Intelligent Systems Technology Programs for Earth Science”
Technology innovation, Earth observation missions, and the data from those missions serve as the foundation for growing scientific understanding of the Earth’s systems, improve predictive capabilities, and deliver actionable science and applications to inform decisions. Within that end-to-end framework, the Intelligent Systems Technology (IST) Programs focus on identifying, developing, and supporting adoption of software and information systems, as well as novel computer science technologies expected to be needed by the Earth Science Division in the 5-10-year timeframe. With its 2 Programs – the Advanced Information Systems Technology (AIST) Program and the newly formed Advanced Modeling Technology (AMT) Program – IST focuses on technologies that enable: unique Earth science observation capabilities through distributed sensing; optimization of science missions value through flexible information integration; agile science investigations through advanced algorithmic, computational and visualization tools; and integrated Earth Science frameworks including inter-connected models, timely and relevant observations and AI tools that enable near- and long-term policy and science decisions by delivering actionable science and information. For all these capabilities, many technologies are essential, e.g., autonomy, novel software system engineering, data analytics, data fusion, super-resolution, artificial intelligence/machine learning, surrogate models and emulators, digital twins, blockchains, advanced computing visualization and high-performance computational techniques. This talk will describe various IST projects developing these capabilities and technologies.
This lecture is free and open to the public. No registration required.
