Science can be a powerful pathway to prosperity, yet under-resourced students often miss out on both a focused curriculum in school, and science role models in their lives. The award-winning* Frost Science Upward Bound Math and Science program (UBMS), funded by the U.S. Department of Education, tackles this issue by recruiting top-notch students from Title 1 schools in the Miami area, and enrolling them in a four-year, after-school, weekend and summer program focused on science, technology, and a culture of intellectual curiosity. UM School of Architecture Dean and CCS Smart Cities program director Rodolphe el-Khoury reported in from the inaugural WIEE World Innovation and Entrepreneurship Expo 2018 in Shanghai: “It turned out to be quite a good event and forum. An Early Behavioral Index of ASD from Automated Microanalysis…

Symptoms of ASD may alter the coordination infant-parent interactions, disrupting successful communication and social interactions. Previous research indicated that six-month-old infants with later ASD did showed no reduction in smiling following parental unresponsiveness (the still-face effect).
