Using “big data” sets and powerful computational screening tools, researchers at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine have identified a compound that inhibits two different cellular targets in cancer. In a recent study published in Scientific Reports, the researchers described the importance of finding the first-in-class dual inhibitor of the kinase protein EGFR, found in many cancers, and BRD4, a protein that controls the expression of oncogenes, or cancer-promoting proteins.
