The University of Miami School of Communication’s Center for Communication, Culture and Change has named Alberto Cairo as “Knight Chair in Visual Journalism”. Prof. Cairo will bring his internationally recognized expertise in multimedia data visualization to Center-related projects, including interdisciplinary cancer communication initiatives. The Sunshine State Education and Research Computing Alliance (SSERCA) has partnered with DDN Data Direct Networks to create a system that allows members of SSERCA to securely share data with speed and ease. This partnership has produced a high-performance storage system for member institutions like the University of Florida (UF), University of Central Florida, and University of Miami. The system allows each institution to use their own identity management system and store data with multiple options for security and replication. Stephan Schürer, PhD, Associate Professor of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at the Miller School, and Chemoinformatics program leader at IDSC, is the head of the team of University of Miami researchers funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) who are creating a Data Coordination and Integration Center for the Library of Integrated Network-based Cellular Signatures (LINCS) program.
