Yelena Yesha Lecture 2/5/2020 on Medical Imaging

Artificial intelligence (AI) has great potential to augment the clinician as a virtual radiology assistant (vRA) through enriching information and providing clinical decision support. Deep learning is a type of AI that has shown promise in performance for Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) tasks. A current barrier to implementing deep learning for clinical CAD tasks in radiology is that it requires a training set to be representative and as large as possible in order to generalize appropriately and achieve high accuracy predictions. AI and Computer Simulations Lift Research Experience

Research projects by students in the computer science undergraduate research program are wrapping up this week at the University of Miami. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the Research Experience for Undergraduates program provided 10-week grants for college students from across the country to come study with University of Miami professors and help them advance their research goals. Series of Sensors Projects feeds Smart City Development

Joel Zysman, IDSC Advanced Computing Director, spoke to a DDN User Group on how Advanced Computing is set up to “follow the data”. The design of the Advanced Computing core is split into 3 core areas: Big Data/Analytics, High-Performance Computing Operations, and Cloud Services. University of Miami storage is not local on the servers, instead, storage is in the middle of the data design.
