Lunch-Bytes Seminar 10/14/2015 RSMAS Campus

We are happy to announce the first seminar as part of the Lunch-bytes Seminar Series this semester at RSMAS. Lunch-bytes were a series of informal seminars that existed from 2010 to 2012, with a focus on various computing topics. Lunch-bytes aims to provide an informal forum for RSMAS students, researchers, and faculty to discuss and exchange knowledge on various computational tools, techniques, and programming languages. GIS Day at UM, Wednesday 11/18/2015

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the new GIS workshop series on a first-come, first-served basis. Each series consists of four workshops and features a different specialty workshop at the end of each cycle. The workshops are intended to be completed sequentially; space is limited to twelve participants, and preference will be given to participants who have attended prior workshops. Sample topics for each session are described at the end of this announcement.

Software Carpentry “R” Workshop 11/19-20/2015

This two-day workshop, jointly hosted by the Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Center for Computational Science (CCS), will provide you with the basic computing skills and best practices needed to be productive in a small research team. The format is a mixture of short seminars and hands-on practical exercises, and participants are encouraged to help one another, and to try applying what they have learned to their own research problems during and between sessions. URIDE Demonstrations Now Available

University Research Informatics Data Environment (URIDE) is a software system developed for UM investigators conducting scientific research who want to explore de-identified patient data for designing an experiment or writing a grant proposal. These 30 minute demonstrations will provide details by examples on how to use the application. Space is limited to 10 seats per session. MATLAB Workshop, Monday 2/9/2015

IDSC is pleased to announce that MathWorks will again be offering two complimentary workshops on Monday February 9th. These sessions are independent of each other and will teach two different sets of skills. You may register for one or both, but please note that the morning session will be hosted in the College of Engineering on the Coral Gables campus, and the afternoon session will be held at the Miller School of Medicine. Tableau Workshop, Wednesday 2/11/2015

Tableau has rapidly become one of the most popular data visualization tools on the market. The School of Communication and IDSC are hosting two duplicate workshops featuring Tableau. Both sessions will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. If you wish to learn how to use it, sign up for one of the sessions offered below. HPC Workshop at the Medical Campus, 9/23/2014

IDSC is offering a beginner level high performance computing workshop at the medical campus. This workshop is targeted at students and postdocs who need to use high performance computing for their research projects, and will teach participants how to access and use their domain-specific applications on the University’s HPC resources.
