Miami Dade College Machine Learning Webinar 4/6 features Ben…

The University of Miami Institute for Data Science and Computing (IDSC) is pleased to partner with the Miami Dade College, Kendall Campus, School of Engineering and Design Technology (“EnTec”) in offering MDC students a glimpse into the world of Machine Learning for Weather and Climate Forecasting through the eyes of IDSC Earth Systems Director Dr. Ben Kirtman.

Dr. Kirtman will host a Workshop/Webinar on Wednesday, April 6 at 12:30 PM for MDC students who may be interested in pursuing a career in Climate and Atmospheric Sciences.  Dr. Kirtman is a Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. He uses atmosphere-ocean general circulation models to study the predictability and variability of the Earth’s climate system.

Dr. Kirtman teaches graduate courses on the general circulation of the atmosphere and El Niño/Southern Oscillation, and climate prediction and predictability. He also teaches dynamic meteorology and atmospheric thermodynamics to undergraduates. He mentors graduate students in the Meteorology and Physical Oceanography graduate program, as well as post-doctoral researchers

Master of Science in Data Science

As part of an Articulation Agreement, the University of Miami and Miami Dade College have entered into a Bachelor to Master’s Transfer Program in which students graduating from the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Data Analytics program at MDC will, upon meeting all minimum requirements, become eligible for admission into the Master of Science (MS) in Data Science at University of Miami. The University of Miami may offer a waiver of up to 50% of the prevailing tuition to qualifying MDC graduates who are admitted to the MS in Data Science Program prior to the tuition waiver deadlines.
