Translational Multimedia Data Mining for AI-Based Medical Diagnostics—Bridging Digital Intelligence with Clinical Practices (TMDM for short) is a WORKSHOP collocated with ICDM 2019 (November 8 – 11, 2019) in Beijing, China. Read more “ICDM-TMDM 2019 Workshop 11/8-11 in Beijing”
Trained instructors lead a comprehensive, hands-on overview of an introductory data analysis using Python, covering topics like data types, functions, conditional statements, loops, errors and exceptions, debugging, and some key Python libraries and writing Python programs that will work like Linux command-line tools. This workshop is designed to provide a foundation of basic concepts that all programming depends on, using Python as an example. This Bash, Python, and git workshop is capped at 35 participants, and is on a first-come/first-served basis. Read more “2-day Python Workshop 11/11-12/2019 Medical Campus”
The 4th annual Big Data Conference has joined with the annual data visualization event VizUM to host a poster session. You are invited to celebrate the launch of TRITON, the University of Miami’s new supercomputer. Using the same AI-optimized architecture as the world’s most powerful supercomputers, Triton is UM’s first GPU-accelerated HPC/AI system, representing a new approach to computational and data science. Triton was designed to process vast amounts of data in near real time by accelerating data transfer between the IBM POWER9 CPU and attached accelerators, enabling students, researchers, and data scientists to explore new possibilities. Trained instructors lead a comprehensive, hands-on overview of what is possible with R, using an example dataset. Go from reading data into R to data types, functions, conditional statements, loops, how to write in RMarkdown, as well as best practices for writing R code that others can understand and use. This workshop is designed to provide a foundation of basic concepts that all programming depends on, using R as an example. Read more “2-DAY “R” Workshop 12/2-3/2019 RSMAS Campus”

“This Hurricane Map Doesn’t Mean What You Think It Means: We use hurricane forecasts to warn people. Why do we misinterpret them so often?” is a motion graphic created by CCS Visualization Program Director Alberto Cairo, along with Tala Schlossberg (NY Times Opinion Visuals Journalist), (“cone of uncertainty”) which appeared online at The New York Times. The graphic explains how to interpet the typical ‘cone’ map, and what the “cone of uncertainty” means. Read more “This Hurricane Map Doesn’t Mean What You Think”
